What's available today
Eligible working parents of 3 and 4 year olds can claim the Childcare Offer for Wales. At Wibli Wobli that's 20 hours a week in Newport and 17.5 hours a week in Cardiff during term time, rising to 30 hours a week in the school holidays. Flying Start adds funded part-time hours for 2 to 3 year olds in some postcodes, and Tax-Free Childcare adds £2 for every £8 you pay in.
What's proposed
Plaid Cymru has proposed a universal offer of 20 free hours a week for 48 weeks a year from the end of parental leave, which the party estimates could save a family over £30,000 across four years. It is a manifesto proposal, not current entitlement — we'll update this page if it becomes policy.
Working it out for your family
